3 Lessons Learnt During The COVID-19 Lockdown

According to World Health Organization (WHO), Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
The virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available.

As a result of these, Nations such as Nigeria, Italy, China, Japan etc have taken a major step in monitoring and preventing further  spread of the deadly disease by ordering total lockdown of Schools, Places of worship, market places, and borders. We now see the nations working tirelessly to find a way to protect its citizen and possibly eradicate the VIRUS. But the question is what are the lessons  learnt in this challenging time?

1. Freedom : Freedom, generally, is having the ability to act or change without constraint (Wikipedia). Each of us have time and space to do all that freedom allows but we often become reluctant, we procrastinate and we often forget that chance and opportunity will not always last. Many are wishing and hoping that this pandemic be over soon so they can go out there and exercise their freedom either to help others, to teach others, to reach others in love, to preach to others and so on while the opportunity is still there. Freedom is abused and never fully maximized and now we are constrained from fully maximizing our freedom.

2. Unified world: Months ago there were nations who have no good relationship, we here threats of wars and so on but today we see nations working together to achieve a common goal such as this which no nation can handle alone, each seeking help and support from another. Individuals from other nations now donating in cash and in materials to help other nations who cannot barely help its citizens. Nations sending medical personnel to help out in other nations and the rich helping the poor. This difficult time have actually reminded us of the need for unity no matter the differences, race, colour, background etc. Nations must come together and stand together not only in time of need. Let us hope that the unity seeing today will continue.

3. E-Learning: The world of technology has help people from distant places to take online classes, study and learn at their comfort. Its now easier and less costly. Students at home now have to continue their studies and that can only be through the e-learning system while they are still at home. But the question is how many parents today make sure that their kids have access to the internet and how many kids today knows how to use the internet? Students that don't have access to internet  and/or are not familiar to online classes would be left behindTeachers who have taken courses on e-learning have higher advantage in reaching their students.

As an individual, parent or government, let us play our role and do what is needful. let us not wait for situations to make us do what is right. let us rise to do what we have the opportunity to do. time and opportunity will not always wait. as it is always said, "make hay while the sun shines."
