The university is a federal government research university founded on the 4th October, 1962 and was name after Sir Ahmadu Bello, born on June 12, 1909. the University which is located in the Northern part of Nigeria in Samaru Zaria, Kaduna state has produced some of the best student in Nigeria and still remains outstanding in its delivery and making of tomorrows leader.

Some of the Alumni which the university produced through the years are men like Professor Muhammad Attahiru Jega, Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, former president of Nigeria Late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and many other reputable men who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria.
