ATBU UPDATE: The Super Eagles Progresses To The Knock Out Stage of The SWEP Cup.

SWEP CUP: Team Super Eagles; Students of Computer and Communication Engineering ATBU, Bauchi.

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa university (ATBU) Bauchi second semester’s holiday is normally not observed by some faculties 200 level students, as they have to stay behind for SWEP (Students Work Experience Program) which is to teach them more practical aspect of what they learnt in class and other menial jobs they could carry out as young graduates without waiting for white collar jobs.

The engineering faculty students, as part of activities to keep themselves fit and have fun, usually organize a football tournament tagged SWEP cup by the students and is being handled by NUESA (Nigerian University Engineering Students Association).

This year’s tournament witnessed a major change as the SUG (Students Union Government) of the university offered to host the cup and lias with other faculties that stayed behind also to improve unity among the students. The competition which was scheduled to hold for a month had teams from both faculty of engineering and engineering technology and faculty of environmental technology based from the SWEP grouping.

An interesting group that was that was drawn in the competition is Group C which featured teams like SUPER EAGLES, UNITED KINGDOM, EAGLE FC AND CITY RIDERS.

Super eagles (students of computer and communication engineering) went into the tournament as one of the favourites to almost all the lovers of good football, because of their dedication to training and their great team work. Things did not work out for the super eagles as they lost to United Kingdom during their first match and ended up being at the bottom of the table after week one of the tournament.

After the shocking 1-0 defeat of week one to the super eagles, they went back to the training pitch and got ready for week two match against city riders who were immediately above them on the table, they played their best which was enough to give them the long victory they deserved as they thrashed City Riders 2:0.

The next match they played was with the second placed team on the table which was the Eagle FC, the game was to be a decider on who moves to the next round as Eagle FC was having 4 points on the log and super eagles were having 3 with the other two teams, united kingdom and city riders having 4 and 0 points respectively. The match was played and super eagles emerged victorious with a 1-nil lead and were able to progress to the next round of the tournament as the first team to collect 6 points.

They started with 0 point at the bottom and ended the group stage leading their group with 6 Points, they truly have a shot at winning the tournament.
